What’s the best way to deal with Cavalry Portfolio Services debt collection? (1500 อ่าน)

Out of nowhere, I started getting letters from Cavalry Portfolio Services saying I owe on an account that I thought was already settled years ago. The balance they’re claiming is a lot higher than I remember, and I’m not sure if this is even a valid debt. From what I’ve read, Cavalry Portfolio is a debt buyer, which means they purchase old accounts and try to collect on them.
The problem is I’m not sure how to respond. Some people say you should never ignore them, but others suggest demanding debt validation first before you do anything. I definitely don’t want to end up restarting the statute of limitations if this is really old. It’s already stressful dealing with the calls and letters, and I’m worried it could affect my credit report.
Has anyone here been through this process with Cavalry Portfolio Services? Did you dispute it, negotiate, or just ignore the calls? I found this guide that talks about stopping Cavalry Portfolio Services debt collection harassment, but I’d appreciate hearing what worked for others in real life.
