Question about selecting the right bearing type for a low-speed, high-load application (126 อ่าน)

Hello everyone,

I’m currently working on a small mechanical design project involving a rotating shaft that operates at relatively low speed (under 100 RPM) but carries a fairly high radial load. The system will run continuously for long periods, so durability and minimal maintenance are important factors.

I’m trying to decide which type of bearing would be most appropriate for this situation. I’ve been considering deep groove ball bearings, tapered roller bearings, and plain (journal) bearings, but I’m not fully confident about the trade-offs in terms of load capacity, friction, and long-term reliability at low speeds.

Could someone with experience in similar applications advise which bearing type would be most suitable, and why? Also, are there any common mistakes to avoid when designing bearing supports for low-speed, high-load systems?

Thanks in advance for your guidance and insights.
