The tour’s name is inspired by the newly recorded track, “The Last Honky Tonk,” which Johnson described as a heartfelt homage to Mills and Cope. Wayne Mills was fatally jameyjohnson.tour.us.com shot in Nashville in 2013, and Cope, a former member of Johnson’s band, passed away in 2021 due to diabetes complications. Johnson recounted, “This is my 20th year on the road… I thought that the name sounded pretty good as a tour name—‘The Last Honky Tonk Tour.’” He emphasized the emotional significance of having Jack Mills, Wayne’s son, play guitar on the track during live shows, reflecting both reverence and celebration of their memory.
