Ayurveda is premised on the concept of balancing three basic energies or doshas that include Vata (air and space), Pitta (fire and water), and Kapha (earth and water). Every individual is constituted differently and when there is an imbalance in these doshas, then it is considered to bring about sickness. The Ayurvedic disciplines are meant to bring harmony back with the help of diet, herbs, meditation, massage, and detoxification therapies.
