At CES 2025, accessory maker Hyperkin unveiled a new Xbox controller inspired by Sony's PS5 DualSense. This wired controller, called The Competitor, is designed for Xbox Series X/S users who prefer the ergonomics of a PlayStation-style controller but with several enhancements.

First teased in 2019 and officially revealed in 2020, Hyperkin has since completely reworked the design. While it maintains the Xbox functionality, the latest version now closely resembles the DualSense with a separated d-pad, a mic mute button, and PS5-inspired triggers and color schemes.

The Competitor features Hall Effect thumb sticks, which promise to eliminate the issue of stick drift that often plagues standard Xbox and PS5 controllers. Additionally, it includes two programmable back buttons for added customization. It will be compatible with both Xbox consoles and PC.

While the price hasn't been confirmed, it's expected to range between $60 and $100. Hyperkin anticipates releasing the controller later this year. For PC users, The Competitor is particularly appealing as it offers the feel of a PlayStation controller but functions like an Xbox controller, making it a great alternative for Steam users. Just be mindful of the different button prompts, especially during QTEs!
