Charging two phones at once in my car killed my battery or was it coincidence? (7 อ่าน)

I need some help understanding what happened because I'm not sure if I caused my own problem or if my battery was already dying. I have a 2016 Kia Soul and last weekend I took a road trip from Sharjah to RAK with my family. During the drive, I had my phone plugged into the USB port and my wife's phone plugged into the cigarette lighter charger, both charging the whole two hour drive. The car ran fine the entire time. We stopped at a restaurant for about an hour, and when we came back, the battery was completely dead. No cranking, just clicking. I got a jump start from another customer and we made it home. Now I'm wondering if charging two phones at once could have damaged my alternator or drained my battery somehow, even though the engine was running during the drive. A friend told me to search online for does charging phone drain car battery and I found conflicting information. Some people say phone chargers use almost no power, others say that using multiple chargers can overload an old alternator. My battery was about two and a half years old, so it might have been near the end anyway. But the timing makes me suspicious. Could charging two phones for two hours really stress the electrical system enough to cause a battery to fail right after? Or was the battery already weak and the long drive with phones charging just happened to be the moment it gave up? I also noticed that my headlights seemed a little dim during that drive, but I thought maybe I was imagining it. If the alternator is working properly, it should provide plenty of power for the car and phone chargers, right? How many amps do phone chargers actually draw? Is there a limit to how many devices I can safely charge while driving? I don't want to be afraid to charge my phone in the car, but I also don't want to get stranded again. Should I have my alternator tested to make sure it's charging properly? Could a weak alternator be the real problem and the phones were just the final straw? Any advice from people who understand car electrical systems would be really helpful. Please explain in simple terms what actually happens when you charge devices while driving and whether that could kill a battery. I just want to understand what went wrong so I don't repeat the same mistake.
